Red Crescent to provide 3 months’ food aid to Bhasan Char Rohingyas
The humanitarian organisation will also set up its office on the island
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) will provide three months' food aid to the Rohingya people who have recently been relocated from Ukhia in Cox's Bazar to Bhasan Char in Noakhali.
The BDRCS has also decided to set up an office on the island to take part in the rehabilitation of Rohingya people.
BRCS disclosed this during a briefing with journalists on relief materials and other humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya people on Bhasan Char.

During the briefing held at the Chattogram Boat Club in Patenga on Wednesday afternoon, BDRCS Chairman Hafiz Ahmed Majumder, MP, said that a BRCS delegation had visited Bhasan Char on 8 December.
"There is currently one month's food stock. On behalf of the BDRCS, we will provide 3 months' food assistance to all Rohingya people at Bhasan Char," he added.
BDRCS will provide all manner of uninterrupted services, including health, education, medicine, hygiene, and livelihood.
"At least while the Rohingya people are here, we want them to live with dignity until they return to their homeland," said Hafiz Ahmed Majumder.
According to BDRCS Vice-Chairman Dr Habibe Millat, MP, in the last three years, BDRCS has provided assistance to the tune of Tk920 crore towards the welfare of the Rohingya people.
"The International Red Cross has already allocated Tk1 crore for the welfare of the Rohingya people relocated to Bhasan Char," he added.
At the time, the BDRCS leaders had said it was difficult to visualize the overall situation of the Rohingya people who had been relocated to the island.
Compared to the crowded environment of Cox's Bazar, they are in a much better condition now, added the Red Crescent leaders, encouraging their relatives remaining in Cox's Bazar to move to Bhasan Char.
On December 8, the BDRCS delegation distributed hygiene kits, dignity kits, sleeping mats, blankets, and water jerry cans amongst 500 Rohingya families on the island.
BDRCS Treasurer Lutfar Rahman Chowdhury Helal; General Secretary Firoz Mohammad Salah Uddin; Managing Board Member Dr Sheikh Shafiul Azam; Advocate Shihab Uddin Shahin and Chattogram City Unit Vice-Chairman Abdus Salam were also present at the press conference.
Earlier on December 4, the government relocated 1,642 Rohingya people from Ukhia in Cox's Bazar to Bhasan Char.
