20 Rohingya, local children get back sight
Their cataract surgeries were completed in two phases at Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex
Shahida, a two-year-old girl who was born at a Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp, was blind from birth. She could not see because of cataracts.
Her life was illuminated by the light of the colorful world on Thursday following a successful surgery at Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex.
Like Shahida, 20 Rohingya and local children in the tourist district of the country got the taste of sight for the first time in their life.
Their cataract surgeries were completed in two phases at Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex.
The children regained their sight when the blindfolds were opened on Thursday, said a press release.
The surgery was performed by senior consultant Dr Nasimul Gani Chowdhury, while Orbis International MIS consultant Maqbool Hossain, Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex Ophthalmic Paramedic Nurtaz, Nasrin and Fakhrer Jahan worked as team members.
Cox's Bazar Baitushsharaf Hospital manager (Program and Operation) Shahid Uddin Mahmud, Afsana Afrin and Jamil Uddin also helped the team perform the surgeries.
The surgeries are being performed at Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex under the project of Qatar Creating Vision Expanding Eye Care in Southeast Bangladesh. The project has been implemented by Orbis International with the financial support of Qatar Fund for Development.
