6 of a family get life term in Rajshahi murder case

A Rajshahi court has sentenced six members of a family to life imprisonment for killing a man from Paba upazila in the district in 2005.

The convicts are Dulal Uddin, his wife Minara Khatun, Md Mithu, Md Tota, Ranju, and Md Bulbul. All of them are from the same family, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Shafiqul Islam Rentu.
He said the judge also fined Tota and Mithu Tk50,000 each while the rest were fined Tk10,000 each in the case. All of them were sent to Rajshahi Central Jail, the PP added.
According to the case statement, Saidur Rahman, 30, was hacked to death by the convicts with sharp weapons over a land dispute at Alokchhatra village in Paba upazila on July 19, 2005.
Later, Sufia Khatun, the mother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Paba Police Station in this connection.
Investigation Officer Zakir Hossain submitted a charge sheet the same year on 19 October. The court took the testimony of 25 people in the case.
After examining all the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict after a long trial of 15 years.
