8 to walk the gallows for raping and killing a Ctg girl
Police recovered her body from the second floor of the six-storey building of Ayesha Mumtaz Mahal around 10pm on the day of the incident
A Chattogram court has awarded death sentence to eight people for killing a nine-year-old girl after rape in Akbar Shah area of Chattogram city in 2016.
Judge Mohammad Jamiul Haider of the Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 handed down the verdict today.
The court also fined each of them Tk1 lakh.
The convicts are Belal Hossain alias Vijay (18), Md Rabiul Islam alias Rubel (18), Md Hashibul Islam alias Liton (26), Md Aksan Mia Prakash Hasan (18), Md Sujan (20), Md Meheraj Prakash Tutul (32), Monirul Islam Manu (49) and Shahadat Hossain Saikat (19).
Among them, Shahadat Hossain is absconding now.
According to the case statement, on 21 January, 2016, the girl named Meem was taken to 'Ayesha Mumtaz Mahal' in Bishwa Colony area under Akbar Shah Police Station in the city and was strangled to death after being raped.
She was a student of class two at Fatematuz Johra Hefzul Quran Mahila Madrasa. Police recovered her body from the second floor of the six-storey building of Ayesha Mumtaz Mahal around 10pm on the day of the incident.
The next day, Meem's mother Rabia Begum filed a case with the police station in this regard.
On 25 January, Belal Hossain, Md Rabiul Islam, Md Hashibul Islam, Md Aksan Mia and Md Sujan made a confessional statement under section 164 in Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmul Hossain's court.
The murder took place due to a dispute between the mother of accused Belal Hossain Vijay and Meem's mother.
