2 killed in Cox’s Bazar road accident
The vehicular movement on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway came to normalcy around 30 minutes after the accident.
Two people have been killed in head-on collision between a passenger bus and a pickup van at Baraitali of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Friday.
The deceased were identified as - Mohammad Manik, 26, driver of the pickup van and son of Shafiul Abbas of Moulvipara in Pekua upazila, and his assistant Tarekul Islam Babu, 22, son of Shahab Uddin of Murarpara.
Anisur Rahman, officer-in charge of Chiringa Highway Police Outpost, said the accident occurred in the morning on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway when the two vehicles were crossing the Baraitali Madrasa gate area.
The Chattogram bound passenger bus collided head-on with the pickup van coming from the opposite direction and plunged into a roadside ditch, leaving over a dozen people injured.
Later, police with help of the locals rescued the injured and took them to a local hospital where the duo succumbed to injuries.
Five of the injured were identified as - Nishitha Barua, 18, daughter of Jayantu Barua of Bandarban's Lama Upazila; Atul Barua, 22, son of Swapan Barua; Safura Khatun, 70, wife of late Dudu Mia; Hatching Mong, 24, son of Angha Mong; and Mamtaz Ahmed, 28, son of Abu Bakar of Pekua.
Of them, Mumtaz Ahmed was later shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Anisur Rahman also said they seized the two vehicles and filed a case with the local police station.
