BTCL begins changing telephone numbers in 3 growth centres, including Sylhet
When a subscriber transfers a telephone number within zones, it will remain unchanged. However, if transferred beyond its zone, only the first digit, in other words, the code will be changed, a BTCL press release said on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has started converting telephone numbers in three growth centres, including Sylhet and six upazilas.
When a subscriber transfers a telephone number within zones, it will remain unchanged. However, if transferred beyond its zone, only the first digit, in other words, the code will be changed, a BTCL press release said on Tuesday.
For subscribers' convenience, a comprehensive list of old vs substituted telephone numbers lists are available on its website -- www.btcl.com.bd. Subscribers will be informed about the change by phone or are requested to call 16402 or 02-996631000 and 02-996643200 during office hours for any queries.
BTCL has divided the country into five zones to convert subscribers' telephone numbers to 11 digits in phases, with a view to providing better service quality nationwide.
Dhaka city and its adjacent areas- Savar, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Tongi, Narsingdi, and Tungipara are under central zone (code 2); Chattogram, Chandpur, Feni, Cumilla and its adjacent areas are under southeast zone (code 3); Khulna, Barishal and its adjacent areas are under southwest zone (code 4); Rajshahi, Rangpur, and its adjacent areas are under northwest zone (code 5); and Sylhet, Mymensingh, Manikganj, Sherpur, Jamalpur, and its adjacent areas are under northeast zone (code 9).
