MC College rape case: HC orders for protection of plaintiffs, witnesses, lawyers

The High Court (HC) has directed the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner to provide proper security to the plaintiffs, witnesses, and lawyers in the MC College dormitory gang-rape case in Sylhet.
At the same time, the High Court has directed to run both the rape and extortion cases in the same court.
Justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafizur Rahman's bench of Virtual High Court passed the order on Sunday.
According to the case, on the night of September 25 last year, some Chattra League leaders tied up the victim's husband and allegedly gang-raped the girl at the MC College dormitory.
Police filed charges against the alleged rape and extortion at the Women and Child Abuse Repression Tribunal of Sessions Judge's Court.
The judge of the Sylhet Women and Child Abuse Repression Tribunal, Mohitul Haque Chowdhury, ordered that charges be framed in the case on January 17. The case is currently at the testimony collection stage.
The High Court was asked to try the extortion case in the Sessions Judge's Court; but the High Court dismissed the application and ordered that adequate security be provided to the witnesses and lawyers.
