JU teachers’ strike underway demanding VC’s resignation
No official activities were held today
A group of teachers at Jahangirnagar University has been observing strike on the campus for the second consecutive day demanding resignation of its Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam on allegation of corruption.
The protesting teachers threatened for continuing their movement until their demand is met.
The teachers under the banner of "Durnitir Biruddhe Jahangirnagar" locked all the administrative buildings of the university.
No official activities were held today.
"No immoral person can be the VC of Jahangirnagar," said Rayhan Rayne, Professor of Philosophy Department of the university, to The Business Standard. "The incumbent VC lost her morality. As a result, we cannot see her in the chair".
"We have no choice who will be the next VC. But we don't want the current VC," he added.
Farzana Islam allegedly took out Tk 1.6 crore from the university projects fund for the leaders of Jahangirnagar University Chhatra League.
Three of the leaders confessed to receiving money from her.
