Unnamed people sued for journalist Muzakkir murder
Police Bureau of Investigation likely to probe the case
Murder charges have been brought against a number of unidentified people for the death of journalist Burhan Uddin Muzakkir during an intra-party clash of the ruling Awami League (AL) in Companiganj, Noakhali.
Muzakkir received bullet wounds on Friday when he was taking pictures and filming the clash between the supporters of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Companiganj upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal, both local AL leaders.
The Noakhali district correspondent of online news portal Barta Bazar was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at 10:45pm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Chattogram range police have written to the police headquarters for transferring the case to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for the investigation.
Muzakkir's father Maulana Nawab Ali Master, a retired primary school teacher, filed the case on Tuesday.
The plaintiff in the case statement pleaded with the prime minister, "I have not seen who killed my son. I request the government and the administration to arrest my son's killers immediately."
Confirming the matter, Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mir Zahidul Haque Rony said that they were carrying out drives to identify those involved in the incident.
Earlier, clashes and shootings took place between the supporters of Abdul Quader Mirza and Mizanur Rahman Badal at Chaprashirhat East Bazar in the upazila on Friday.
Police fired several rounds of tear gas and shotguns to control the situation.
Around seven people were shot during the clash.
