Fariha Islam Trisna bagged 6 wickets in the opening Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games in Sylhet to see her team clinching a 10-wicket victory over the Bangladesh Red team in the tournament opener.
The Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games began today at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet where the Blue and Red team locked horns.
Left-arm seamer Fariha Islam Trisna bagged 6 wickets in the opening Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games in Sylhet to see her team clinching a 10-wicket victory over the Bangladesh Red team in the tournament opener.
Batting first, Bangladesh Red were bowled out for a mere 64 runs after playing 28.1 overs. Zinnat Orthi bagged 21 runs for the team. Apart from her, Rubya Haider Jhilik reached the double-digit mark. All the superstars in the team - Sharmin Akter Supta, Nigar Sultana Joty, Lata Mondol, and Fahima Khatun - failed.
Trisna was the wonder woman of the show. She picked up 6 wickets for only 14 runs. Ace all-rounder Salma Khatun bagged 2 for 14. The other two wickets were shared by Sobhana Mostary and Jahanara Islam.
The Blue team had no problem whatsoever chasing such a tiny total. They comfortably chased down the target within 15 overs without losing any wicket. Shamima Sultana remained unbeaten on 31 while her partner Murshida Khatun bagged 25 runs.
An opening ceremony was held before the start of the proceedings.
All the teams will play against each other once and the final will take place on March 12.
Though the Bangladesh Games officially will begin on April 1, the cricket discipline of the women started earlier.
The format was initially slated to be held in accordance with the T20 format but Bangladesh Cricket Board discussed with Bangladesh Olympic Association to make it a 50-over event to help the women cricketers get some game time under their belts ahead of the home series later this month against their South African counterparts.
