Jubo League leader held over journalist Muzakkir’s death
A Jubo League leader has been arrested in a case filed over the death of journalist Muzakkir during a clash between two factions of Companiganj Awami League and police.
Members of the Police Bureau of Investigation held Belal Hossain from Bashurhat market around 1pm today. He is a member of the union Jubo League.
Noakhali PBI Inspector Mostafizur Rahman said they held Belal raiding in the market acting on a tip-off. He is the first to be arrested in the case. Belal is being interrogated, the officer added.
On 19 February, Muzakkir received bullet wounds while he was photographing and filming clashes between the supporters of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Companiganj upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal, both local Awami League leaders.
The Noakhali district correspondent of online news portal Barta Bazar was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at 10:45pm on Saturday.
Muzakkir's father Maulana Nawab Ali Master, a retired primary school teacher, filed the case on Tuesday.
