DNCC launches crash programme for mosquito eradication
The campaign will continue for next 10 days, said DNCC mayor
The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a zone-based crash programme for mosquito eradication.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the programme after visiting Sagufta canal area under Pallabi Police Station in the city on Monday.
The mayor said that all cleaning staff of DNCC, equipped with mosquito repellents, are taking part in this crash programme to eradicate mosquitoes from DNCC. "The integrated mosquito eradication campaign will continue for next 10 days," he informed.
"The campaign will be conducted dividing the DNCC areas into 10 zones. Usually, the city corporation applies mosquito repellent in the morning and evening in 54 wards under those 10 zones, but this time, we have changed the method. We will run a separate crash programme in each zone," said the mayor.
"Today, we are conducting a campaign at the Mirpur-2 area, and tomorrow (Tuesday) it will be carried out at Mirpur-10 zone. In this way, we will conduct the campaign in 10 zones until 16 March (except Friday). A total of 1,400 extermination workers are taking part in the crash programme," he said, adding, "After the end of the first phase of the crash programme, it will start again with a one-day break. We will determine our next step based on the result of this work."
The mayor said in the past, earlier, there were only 60 mosquito and cleaning workers in each ward, but now the number has increased to 150.
He said a third party organisation would inspect whether the mosquito repellent is working properly and will only report to the mayor. We have entomologists who will monitor everything and suggest where and how much medicine is needed.
