Four get life sentence over killing of Manikganj farmer
The judge also fined them Tk10,000 each
A Manikganj court on Sunday sentenced four people to life imprisonment for killing farmer Lalchan of the districts's Jamsa village in Shibaloy upazila in 2015.
Manikganj District and Session Judges Court judge Mir Ruhul Amin handed down the verdict on Sunday noon in presence of the four convicts.
The judge also fined them Tk10,000 each; in default, they have to serve six months in jail.
According to the case statement, Lalchan had a longstanding dispute with the four accused over 40 decimals of land.
Lalchan went to visit his paddy field on information that his field was being damaged by some people on 2 April 2015. At one stage, Md Jamir Hossain, Md Zahur Ali, Sumom Hossain, and Motiar Rahman carried out an attack on him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Lalchan was taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital, and later he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital when his condition deteriorated. But he died on the way to the hospital.
On 3 April 2015, Lalchan's father Jamal Kazi filed a case with Shibaloy Police Station accusing 12 people in this connection.
The investigation officer of the case submitted a charge sheet on 5 September 2015.
After examining all records and the testimony of 13 people, the judge announced the verdict.
