Qatar-returnee detained after failed bank robbery attempt in Ctg
A Qatar-returnee expatriate was arrested on Wednesday after a failed attempt to rob the Naval Avenue branch of Trust Bank in Chattogram EPZ today afternoon.
The detainee was identified as Tarikul Islam (21), son of Mofizur Rahman from Cox's Bazar.
EPZ police station Officer-in-Charge Utpal Barua said, "Tarikul returned from Qatar around one year ago. He was unemployed since then. Today he tried to rob the bank threatening that he had bomb in his bag and will blow up the bank if he does not get money."
"The man tried to create a hostage situation inside the bank by threatening the officials to explode a bomb if anyone tries to bar him from the robbery," said RAB spokesperson Nurul Afsar.
Later, RAB and police managed to arrest the man in a joint drive at 6pm. A bomb-like object has been seized from him. Later, it was found that he had a body-spray bottle in the bag.
