Postponed inaugural Women's U19 WC to be held in Bangladesh in 2023

The inaugural U19 ICC Women's World Cup, which was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh later this year, has been postponed to January 2023. The decision was made at an International Cricket Council (ICC) Committee meeting held through a virtual conference call on Thursday. 

An ICC media release confirmed that the board has agreed to postpone the inaugural ICC Women's U19 World Cup 2021.

"Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the establishment and subsequent development of the U19 programs in many countries and teams would not be able to prepare appropriately for a global event later this year. As such, the inaugural event will now take place in January 2023," the ICC media release said.

Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, chairman of the BCB's women's wing confirmed to The Business Standard (TBS) that Bangladesh will host the inaugural event in 2023.

"Women's U19 World Cup which was supposed to be held this year has been postponed to 2023 due to Covid-19. It will take place in January 2023 and Bangladesh will be the host," he told TBS.

The press release also confirmed Bangladesh women's team getting Test status along with Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. 

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) started preparations for this World Cup at the beginning of this year. The BCB Women's Wing had just started the process of selecting talented cricketers through departmental coaches across the country. The game development department was  also collaborating with them.

 But as the tournament is postponed, they are getting more time to organize the team and venues.
