Goods unloading at Bhomra port resumes after 6-day of suspension

Goods unloading at Bhomra land port resumed on Wednesday after a six-day suspension due to labourers' strike from 1 April demanding increase of wages.
Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of the Bhomra Land Port C&F Agents Association, said the deputy commissioner had a meeting with business leaders on Tuesday afternoon.
As per the demand of the traders, from now on the traders can unload the goods with respective laborers after paying the revenue fixed by the government, without paying money for laborers to the contractor.

At 5pm on Wednesday, traders with the help of laborers started unloading truckload goods imported from India.
Amir Mahmud, assistant commissioner of Bhomra customs station, said the labourers went on strike from 1 April demanding increase of wages, leaving the Bhomra port in standstill condition and halting revenue collection.
Revenue worth about Tk3 crore is collected through the port every day. The revenue collection has declined drastically in the last seven days, he added.
