Celebrate Bangla New Year virtually: Govt
The government has instructed all to celebrate the upcoming occasion of Bangla New Year-1428 virtually and avoid programmes that may lead to mass gathering.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday night, saying the decision was taken in an inter-ministerial meeting on 21 March, keeping the Covid induced adverse situation in mind.
"Mass-gathering is allowed under no circumstance," said the notice, signed by Deputy Secretary ASM Hasan Al Amin.
Earlier, the Dhaka University authorities announced that they will hold a Mongol Shobhajatra on the Fine Arts Institute premises with participation of 100 individuals, marking the Bangla New Year.
Bangladesh once again saw an alarming surge in the number of Covid-19 cases on Wednesday as 7,626 people – highest so far – were tested positive in the past 24 hours.
At the same time, the country recorded 63 more deaths from the virus.
Although a nationwide lockdown is in effect for the last few days, no sign of improvement has been reported to date.
In this circumstance, all are set to celebrate the Bangla New Year on 14 February in a different manner.
