Migrant workers demand resumption of Chattogram flights
With validity of visas diminishing, they bought tickets to go back to their workplace in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman
Migrant workers demonstrated in front of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines Office in the port city on Saturday morning, demanding resumption of international flights to and from Chattogram.
Migrant workers trapped in the country by the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, gathered at Gate 2 of Sholashahar in the city.
They said Biman Bangladesh Airlines had committed to operate special flights to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Singapore for migrant workers starting Saturday morning.
With validity of visas diminishing, they bought tickets to go back to their workplace in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman. However, they were not even informed about flight cancellations got the news only after reaching the airport.
Arifuzzaman Khan, Chattogram Airport manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines said a total of 14 international flights from Chattogram have been cancelled till 21 April.
Contacted regarding the demonstration, Meer Akhteruzzaman, Chattogram district manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, did not agree to comment.
