B’baria lawmaker files complaint against district Hefazat president, general secy
Brahmanbaria-3 constituency lawmaker RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury has filed a complaint with the Brahmanbaria Sadar model police station to sue the district Hefazat-e-Islam President Maulana Sajidur Rahman and General Secretary Mufti Mubarak Ullah under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Inspector (investigation) Muhammad Shahjahan of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station confirmed the information, saying that the statement was submitted on Saturday evening
Advocate Abdul Jabbar Mamun, legal secretary of Brahmanbaria city Awami League, submitted the statement on behalf of lawmaker Muktadir.

In the statement, 14 people including Sajidur Rahman and Mubarak Ullah were accused by names and 150 more unnamed persons, for fostering cyber-crimes that helped incite riots in the district.
According to the statement, the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam incited riots in Brahmanbaria from 26 to 28 March centering the Golden Jubilee of Independence and the visit of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh. During the riots, they used firearms, gunpowder, and various combustible substances and caused severe damage to public property in the district.
The statement mentioned that these riots were incited as a part of a conspiracy to overthrow the government.
It also added that under the direction of Maulana Sajidur Rahman, Mufti Mubarak Ullah, and other accused, cyber terrorism was organised on various Facebook pages and news portals to create agitation among the people. These cyber-crimes facilitated the circulation of hate speech against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bangladeshi government and as a result, the law and order situation in Brahmanbaria deteriorated.
Sadar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Muhammad Shahjahan further said that necessary steps would be taken after discussing the matter with the higher authorities.
