Five more arrested over assault on Rajshahi polytechnic principal
Acting on a tip-off that they were hiding in Belpukur, the special DB team conducted a drive and arrested them.
Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi has detained five more listed accused over their alleged involvement in throwing the principal of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute into a pond.
The arrestees, Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Kamal Hossain Sourav, Murad, Shanto and Salman alias Tony were arrested from Belpukur's Bismillah filling station area.
Another accused Rayhanul Islam Hasib was arrested from Hatikumrul area of Sirajganj.
"Acting on a tip-off that they were hiding in Belpukur area, the special DB team conducted a drive and arrested them," Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan DB Police Abu Ahmed Al Mamun said.
On November 2, a group of alleged BCL activists of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute threw the principal into a pond for not complying with their illegal demand to sit for an examination.
After the incident, the Principal filed a case around 9pm at Chandrima police station accusing 50 people, mentioning the names of seven people.
Teachers and students of the institute staged demonstration and formed human chain protesting the physical assault.
