Rail communication disrupted for beating of loco masters in Brahmanbaria
Witnesses of the incident said the freight train from Dhaka hit a motorcycle while passing the level crossing in the afternoon
Rail communication between Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet has seen an hour of disruption on Saturday after two locomotive operators of a freight train were dragged down from their cockpits and beaten up by locals in Brahmanbaria over an accident.
Locomotive operators Anwar Hossain, 45, and Jasim Uddin, 40, were injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital.
Because of the incident, the Chattogram-bound freight train remained at a level crossing adjacent to Brahmanbaria Railway Station for an hour. As a result, the routes from Dhaka were non-functional between 3:00 and 4:00 pm on Saturday.
Witnesses of the incident said the freight train from Dhaka hit a motorcycle while passing the level crossing in the afternoon.
The motorcyclist fell to the side of the railway line, and the locomotive operators stopped the train immediately.
Later, the motorcyclist had train driver Anwar and his assistant Jasim off the train and roughed them up.
Md Salauddin Khan, sub-inspector of Brahmanbaria station police outpost, said the signaling system of Brahmanbaria station had been non-functional since March 26, the reason behind the accident.
Brahmanbaria railway Stationmaster Mohammad Shoaib said the police had seized the motorcycle.
