Wild elephants kill 3 in Chattogram
Three elderly persons died during an attack by a herd of wild elephants at Kadurkhil area of Chattogram's Boalkhali upazila today.
The deceased are - Md Zakir Hossain, 64, former head master of Kadurkhil Primary School, Md Taher, 65, of Moddhom Kadurkhil area and Abdul Mabud, 60, of Kharondip area.
Confirming the incident, Inspector (investigation) of Boalkhali Police Station Md Helal Uddin said, "Three people died in separate places from 6am to 9am in the elephant attack. Two of the bodies have been handed over to their families. Another injured person died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital."
A special team from Dhaka are working to return the herd of wild elephants into the forest, said Md Forkan, junior officer of Forest Department in Boalkhali upazila.
Another team is supposed to join them today, he added.
"The elephants came in the locality on Saturday. However, they started to attack people from today morning," the forest officer said further.
