Substation digitisation, a step towards transformation of energy system
Energy systems of the future will be increasingly decarbonised, distributed and digitised
The Siemens Bangladesh Ltd has organised an awareness building seminar on how digital substations can help optimise overall efficiency of power transmission and distribution.
Substations are an integral component of power grids that connect grids of differing voltage levels. Their controlling and coordinating function is vitally important to the stability of the overall system.
The digitisation of substations is a decisive step towards successfully shaping the transformation of the energy system, said a press release issued after the seminar held at a Dhaka hotel on Monday.
Siemens AG's digital substation promoter Andrius Stamkauskas was the keynote speaker at the event.
The energy systems of the future will be increasingly decarbonised, distributed, and digitised, he said, adding, "Digitisation will help us master these challenges. Investments in innovative technologies today create future-proof power grids characterised by reliability, efficiency, and sustainability."
He also answered different questions raised by the audience after his presentation.
In a separate statement, Prabal Bose, managing director and CEO of the Siemens Bangladesh, said that the smart grid is a noble concept which enables the transformation of the conventional electric power grid to a modern grid.
Modernisation of the substation is a primary and important step to implement the smart grid technology, he said, adding, "The Siemens has been a global leader in smart grid technologies, and we are eager to contribute in Bangladesh."
Representatives from different power utility companies such as the Bangladesh Power Development Board, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Power-Cell, Dhaka Power Distribution Company, West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited and Northern Electricity Supply Company participated in the event.
