Tension grips Chittagong University
Two Chhatra League factions file case, counter case escalating tension on the campus
Two groups of Chhatra League have filed cases against each other over factional clashes on the Chittagong University campus.
At least 35 students have been accused in the cases filed with Hathazari Model Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Alam said they will take actions against culprits.
Of the two factions, Varsity Express (VX) is known as the follower of Chattgoram City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin while Choose Friends with Care (CFC) supports Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.
Police said Nasir Uddin Sumon, former Vice-President of the Chittagong University chapter Chhatra League and leader of the CFC faction, filed a case on Wednesday. Leader of the VX faction Mizanur Rahman Bipul is among the 20 accused in the case.
Previously, Jahid Hasan of the VX faction had filed a case accusing 15.
Earlier, clashes erupted between the two factions over sitting in the TV room at Suhrawardy Hall of the university on Friday night.
Tension further escalated as some miscreants attacked CFC members Nasir Uddin Sumon and Abdullah Al Nahiyan Rafi on Sunday at university adjacent area.
The CFC leaders have been blaming VX for the incident. A faction of Chhatra League called for a blockade on that night demanding arrest of the miscreants.
Agitated students also vandalized vehicles. The agitation was eased later centering the President's visit to the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology.
