Tulip, Rushanara, Rupa re-elected MPs in UK
Another Bangladeshi origin, Apsana Begum, has been elected lawmaker for the first time
While Labour suffered a decisive defeat, three of their Bangladeshi origin candidates have managed to retain their constituencies in the UK election, and one won election for the first time.
Tulip Siddiq has won reelection as MP for the constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn. A granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder father of Bangladesh, Tulip Siddiq stood as the Labour Party candidate.
She received 28,080 votes. Johnny Luk, standing for the Conservative Party, came second with 13,892 votes, according to election data gathered from the BBC.
Rupa Huq, an academic and Labour Party politician, has also retained her seat in Ealing Central and Acton after receiving 28,132 votes, beating the Conservative candidate Julian Gallant, who only got 14,832 votes.

Rushanara Ali, the first person of Bangladeshi origin to be elected in Britain's House of Commons, has also won reelection in Bethnal Green & Bow constituency from Labour with 44,052 votes, which amounted to more than 70% of the vote share. Nicholas Stovold from the Conservatives came second with 6528 votes.
Apsana Begum, the parliamentary candidate for Poplar & Limehouse, has also been elected in the House of Commons for the first time with 38,660 votes.
