3 Bangladeshis among 10 injured in drone attacks at Saudi airport

Ten people, including three Bangladeshis, were injured in two explosives-laden drone attacks at King Abdullah airport in the southern Saudi city of Jizan late on Friday and early on Saturday, the Saudi-led coalition said.

The military coalition intervened in Yemen in 2015, backing forces of the ousted government of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and fighting the Iran-aligned Houthi group.

Six Saudis, three Bangladeshi nationals and one Sudanese were injured in the first attack, Saudi state media said, citing a coalition spokesman. Some of the airport's facade windows were shattered in the attack, the spokesman said.

However, the Labour Welfare Wing of the Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah has collected information from the authorities that two of the injured in the drone attack were Bangladeshis.

One of them is Monir, son of Sirajul Haque, from Munshiganj, who has been discharged from the hospital after providing first aid.

Another injured Md Yusuf Ali, son of Akkas Ali, who hails from Brahmanbaria, suffered minor injuries to his legs but he is out of danger at present. He is currently admitted to King Fahad Hospital in Jizan.

The consulate representative in Jeddah held a voice conference with both. Both were working at the airport in Jizan.

Earlier, a second explosives-laden drone was intercepted early on Saturday, the coalition said, without giving details on any injuries or damages.

Air traffic in King Abdullah airport was normal, state TV said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility by the Houthis that regularly launches drone and missile attacks targeting the gulf kingdom.

On Wednesday, four workers were also wounded after the coalition intercepted an explosives-laden drone targeting the kingdom's Abha airport.

On 31 August, a drone hit the same airport, wounding eight people and damaging a civilian aircraft.
