Mental health is one of the biggest unmet needs of our time, especially in Bangladesh. The concept of it is mostly lost to the people due to lack of education and the stigma behind it.
It is time that this changes and people prioritise understanding mental health and support those who suffer - adults and children alike.
Enter Solace. Solace is a humanitarian organisation established in October 2019 by two A'level students. Zainab Tanzim and Reesha Ahmed made a noble decision to dedicate their spare time to create a platform that enables them to aid the underprivileged children with a holistic approach.
Solace organised an event called 'The Self-Love Project'- an initiative that aims to make mental health a priority, at SOS Children's Village, Mirpur on December 22.
The event provided a platform to discuss the importance of mental health. They invited Miss Chaina Rani Shaha as the special guest who is a successful alumni of SOS Village, and a spokesperson for Kaan Pete Roi, an emotional support helpline.
They also had handmade Self-Love Kit giveaways, a guided meditation and individual counselling with experts Jaharat Ara and Fatiha Polin.
The event achieved its goal of instilling unconditional self-love and self-confidence in the children so they can begin the new year with a positive mind set.
