DSCC cleaner drove vehicle killing NDC student in absence of actual driver: Police
Shah Alam Dewan, Nayeem’s father, has filed a case with Paltan Police Station on Wednesday night
The detained Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) cleaner Rasel, responsible for the death of Notre Dame College student, was driving the garbage vehicle in absence of the actual driver Harun, says police today.
Rasel took the vehicle key from the real driver Md Harun from Sayedabad, said Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of Motijheel Division while briefing the media on Thursday.
Besides, he had no driving licence, said the police official.
Meanwhile, Harun went into hiding after the accident, he said.
Drive is underway to arrest Harun, said the official.
Shah Alam Dewan, Nayeem's father, has filed a case with Paltan Police Station on Wednesday night.
The DSCC vehicle hit Nayeem, a second-year student of NDC, and ran him over while he was crossing the road on Wednesday.
Following his death, students of his institution protested in the Motijheel area demanding justice.
Hundreds of students of Notre Dame College have blocked the Shapla Chattar in Motijheel for the 2nd consecutive day to press demands for road safety and exemplary punishment of the driver responsible for Nayeem's death.
The authorities of DSCC formed a three-member investigation committee to look into the incident.
