DU rape victim discharged; suspect on 7-day remand
RAB arrested the suspect based on the description given by the victim and by tracking her mobile phone which Majnu had snatched
The student of Dhaka University who was raped and tortured in the capital's Kurmitola area was discharged from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
"Her health condition is better now," Director of the hospital Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin told journalists. "She has been asked to come for a follow-up after a week."
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court placed rape suspect Majnu, 30, on a seven-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansary granted the remand when police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand plea on the same day.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Majnu from Shewra area in Dhaka on Wednesday. Later, the elite force handed him over to the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The victim, a second-year student of Dhaka University, was picked up by the rapist after she got down from a bus in Kurmitola area in the capital on January 5 evening. Then she was taken to a quiet place nearby where she was raped and tortured.
