Writ seeks forming commission to set LPG cylinder price
In the forthcoming week, the hearing will be held at any bench of the High Court on the writ
A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking the direction to form a commission to set the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder after comparing with the International markets.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Moniruzzaman Linkon filed the writ today in a section of High Court, in which he also demanded to take steps for imprinting the maximum retail price on LPG cylinders.
"In the forthcoming week, the hearing will be held at any bench of the High Court on the writ," Linkon said.

Energy Secretary and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission were made respondents to the writ.
On January 7, a legal notice was served on the authorities concerned urging them to take steps for imprinting the maximum retail price on liquefied petroleum gas cylinders.
Advocate Moniruzzaman said, "As the maximum retail price is not written on the cylinders, private companies raise the price every now and then on the excuse of an increase in prices in the international market."
However, in most of the cases, the local companies hoard the product and raise its prices at their will as there is no government mechanism to control the prices of the cylinders.
