Petition seeks Tk 1 crore compensation over Sergeant Kibria’s death
Advocate Md Faizullah filed the petition on Tuesday.
A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk 1 crore as compensation for the family of Sergeant Golam Kibria, a sergeant of traffic division of Barishal Metropolitan Police, a who died on July 16 after being critically injured in a road accident on Barishal-Patuakhali highway.
Advocate Md Faizullah filed the petition on Tuesday on behalf of Golam Kibria’s father Eunus Ali Shikdar.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam is scheduled to hear the plea.
On July 15, a speedy covered van hit Kibria at Karnokathi Zero Point on Barishal-Patuakhali highway in front of Barishal University while he was discharging his duty at around 12:00pm, leaving him critically injured.
Kibria was taken to Barishal Medical College and Hospital immediately.
Observing that his condition had been deteriorating, doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he breathed his last.
A total of 10 people including, home secretary, roads and communications secretary, IG of police, commissioner of police (Barishal) and chairman of Jamuna Group have been mentioned as defendants in the writ petition.
