5 arrested for making fake NIDs, driving licences, passports
The gang used to provide the fake documents within 3-7 days
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested five members of a fraud gang who used to make and supply fake NIDs, driving licences, passports among other fake documents.
During raids conducted in different parts of the capital on Monday, RAB members nabbed Md Golam Mostafa, Md Jalal Bashar, Md Muslim Uddin, Md Minarul Islam and Md Tareq Mridha, said RAB's legal and media wing director Commander Khandaker Al Moin at a press briefing on Tuesday.
While addressing the media, he said, "The gang has been in operation for the last 10 years. Mostafa is the ring leader and others are his associates."
"The members of this gang used to take position in front of Election Commission offices and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) offices to find their targets. Then they lured people by saying that they would provide them with necessary documents –including passports, NIDs, and driving licences– within just three to seven days."
"To deceive the people, the gang used fake seals, signatures and payment receipts of different banks and government agencies. They even used to post on different social media platforms about their services," he added.
Referring to the initial interrogation, Khandaker Al Moin said, "The ring used to charge Tk3,000-4,000 for a fake driving licence. Besides, they took Tk8,000-10,000 for quick issuance of NIDs and driving licences."
A case has been filed with Sabujbagh police station against them, the RAB official added.
