RAB arrest 4 involved in fake notes trade
RAB said there are 15-20 more members in the ring
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four persons allegedly involved in making and selling counterfeit currency.
RAB-4 arrested them from the capital's Chawkbazar, Sirajganj Sadar and Khalishpur in Khulna on Saturday. Counterfeit currency worth Tk1 crore, one laptop, one printer and a huge amount of equipment for making the fake notes were also seized.
The gang was using fake notes in Dhaka, Sirajganj, Khulna, Jashore and other areas, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the legal and media wing of the RAB headquarters, while briefing reporters at its Karwan Bazar media centre on Sunday.
The arrestees are gang leader Maun Hossain Sabbir, 21, Parvez, 20, Tarek, 20 and Shihab, 20.
They had been running the racket for a year. The RAB official said there are 15-20 more members in the ring.
Khandaker Al Moin said they learned how to make fake notes from YouTube, Facebook and other social media sites.
Sabbir also met other members of the ring on a Facebook group, where they hatched the scheme to start dealing in fake notes.
The RAB spokesperson said they could produce and sell notes worth Tk2 lakh when business was smooth. Their customers also came from their Facebook group and they would communicate through the Messenger app.
Fake notes worth Tk1 lakh were sold for Tk15,000-20,000. So far, they have sold fake notes worth almost Tk2 crore. They used to burn unused papers to avoid the attention of law enforcers.
