Chinese business delegation visits BGMEA to discuss potential trade collaboration
A delegation of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile (CCCT), led by its Chairman CAO Jiachang, paid a visit to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on 5 July.
During the visit, they met with BGMEA President Syed Nazrul Islam and Vice President Shahidullah Azim to explore opportunities for collaboration and expansion of the business horizon between Bangladesh and China in the textile and apparel sector, reads a press release.
Nazrul Islam highlighted Bangladesh's strong focus on moving to high-value products, especially man-made fibre based garments, seeking the support of China in developing capabilities through sharing of knowledge and technical expertise.
During the meeting, various trade-related issues were discussed, including the current apparel market situation, global trends, challenges, and opportunities. These discussions aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the industry landscape and identify areas for potential collaboration, with the ultimate goal of reaping mutual benefits.

BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim highlighted the potential collaboration between Bangladesh and China in the textile industry. As China is a leading supplier of man-made fibre, dyes, chemicals, textile machinery, and other raw materials, it can meet the growing demand of Bangladesh.
Azim suggested that China could import more readymade garments from Bangladesh as well.
Additionally, he invited Chinese investors to consider investing in man-made textiles in Bangladesh, emphasising the mutual benefits that such investments could bring.
Other delegation members present at the meeting included Dai Kesheng, director of membership department, CCCT; Zhang Lu, international affairs department, CCCT; Li Zefeng, chairman, Hebei Textiles Import and Export Co Ltd; Du Tianyu, supply chain manager, Hebei Textiles Import and Export Co Ltd; Qin Hongchao, chairman, Jiangsu Manope Hometextile Co Ltd; and Ge Zhenyu (Mike), vice country manager, Jiangsu Guotai Huasheng Industrial Co Ltd.
