Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur in parts of the country.
"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and one or two places over Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country," said a met office release for the next 24 hours till 6am today (18 August).
A low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay and adjoining area. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, the centre of the low and thence northeastwards to Assam across southern part of Bangladesh. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh a moderate elsewhere over the North Bay.
A mild heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and the districts of Pabna and Bogura, and it may continue.
Day temperature may rise slightly, and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country. The weather forecast begins from 9am today.
The country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 36.8 degrees Celsius in Sylhet district, and a minimum temperature of 24.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at Bandarban district.
The country's maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am today was recorded at 42 millimetres (MM) at Badalgachi in Naogaon district.
