Chinese national, accomplice land in jail over rape of college girl
Police on Sunday rescued the girl and arrested the Chinese citizen, Ji Sheng, and his local accomplice, Hira Chakma, from a restaurant in the capital’s Uttara on information from a woman.
A Chinese national and his Bangladeshi accomplice were sent to jail on charges of raping a college girl after promising to marry her and take her to China.
Police on Sunday rescued the girl and arrested the Chinese citizen, Ji Sheng, and his local accomplice, Hira Chakma, from a restaurant in the capital's Uttara on information from a woman.
The victim was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for medical examinations, and primary evidence suggested that she was raped, said Uttara West police station officer-in-charge Masud Alam.
In the case document, the victim said she connected with Hira Chakma through Facebook and he promised to take her to China after marriage.
Hira brought her to the residence of Ji Sheng at Uttara Sector 14 on Friday night and this was when she was raped by that Chinese citizen.
Confined to that house, she was raped again the next day.
On Sunday, the girl was brought to a restaurant. There, she managed to seek assistance from a woman who promptly alerted the police.
The swift response of the police led to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of the culprits from the eatery, said OC Masud Alam.
The following day, a Dhaka court sent the duo to jail.
Police are yet to find the Chinese citizen's legal papers in Bangladesh, the OC added.
