EU decision not to send full team of observers won't impact next JS polls: Shahriar
As of Thursday evening, the foreign ministry has received no information regarding the EU’s decision on polls-time observers, the state minister also said.
The European Union's decision not to send a full-fledged polls-time observation team will have no impact on Bangladesh's next parliamentary election slated for January, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahrier Alam said today.
"The arrival or absence of the European Union's representatives will not have any impact on the election. This has happened in the past and it has not diminished the credibility [of the elections]. The EU delegation met with all constituencies," he said while replying to queries from journalists after attending an event at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday (21 September).

"The European Union has not informed the foreign ministry about this. We will let you [journalists] know when we are informed," he said.
When mentioned that local media reported that the Election Commission has received a letter from the EU in this regard, Shahriar said, "The Election Commission is a constitutional body. We are part of the government. Our communication methods are different.
"However, if the EC has received a letter from the EU, they [EC] are yet to inform us."
