‘Kathputli, Dances and Puppets of Rajasthan’ at SUB Permanent Campus
State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organizes various events to introduce the students to the art and culture of the country as well as the culture of other countries of the world.
In continuation of that, a day-long puppet dance titled 'Kathputul-Puppet and Dance of Rajasthan' was organized on 11 October, 2023 at SUB's permanent campus in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka. Mr. Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Director of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka was present as a special guest. Indira Gandhi Cultural Center program executive Satish Yadav was also present.
Brigadier General Md. Jamal Hossain, (LPR), ndc, afwc, psc, MDS, MSS, PhD (fellow), Registrar, SUB, delivered his welcome speech in the program.
India's traditional puppet dance of Rajasthan is known all over the world. Kathputli or Kathputul is a type of puppet dance native to Rajasthan, India. It is an important part of Rajasthani culture.
any scholars believe that the tradition of wood puppetry is more than a thousand years old. The tribals of Rajasthan have been performing this art since ancient times. It has become an eternal part of Rajasthani cultural diversity and heritage.
The performance of 'Kathputul-Puppet and Dance of Rajasthan' included dance and puppetry at the same time. The first portion of the performance, with the dancer, at the front of the stage takes place in a small village in the north of India, at daybreak.
The second act has a change of scenery, which comes directly from the Kathputli tradition.
The puppeteers are Sikandar Khan, Ishwar Mathur, Sushila and Vijay Bhatt. About 150 students from Raihan College, Azimpur, Dhaka and Salimuddin College, Rupganj were present in the event.
Students of Raihan College and Salimuddin College are very happy to be invited to participate in such an event. They said that such an initiative of the State University will further accelerate the interest of the students.
The program was moderated by Md. Tareq Omar, Assistant Director of Public Relations Department of SUB and Mr. Aseem Bhatnagar, Director of Public Relations Department gave the closing speech.
