Jamaat executive council member arrested
“He was taken [to the police station] in an ambulance”
Police have arrested Matiur Rahman Akand, the party's central publicity secretary and executive council member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
"He was arrested in a case filed in October last year and has been sent to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court," said Mirza Salahuddin, additional deputy commissioner of DMP's Uttara zone.
Regarding the incident, Publicity Secretary of Jamaat's Dhaka Metropolitan North Ataur Rahman Sarker said the police cordoned off Matiur's Uttara house around 10:00am.
"He was taken [to the police station] in an ambulance."
According to Matiur's family members, he has been suffering from heart problems for some time now and has undergone bypass surgery.
"He had an MRI last night and was supposed to be admitted to the United Hospital today on the doctor's advice," said his family.
