Govt to take measures to recover losses in fisheries and livestock sector: Minister
The country will face a scarcity of food if fish and food production is disrupted
The government will take all necessary measures to recoup losses, caused by the coronavirus outbreak, in the country's fisheries and livestock sector, said Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday.
SM Rezaul Karim was addressing a view-exchange meeting with field-level fisheries and livestock officers from his Dhaka residence through online.
The minister said, "The government has taken a massive plan to help small farmers, farm owners and commercial entrepreneurs. The government will provide them with loans on simple terms, technical support and subsidies in fodder."
He feared that the country will face a scarcity of food and malnutrition if fish and food production is disrupted.
"The fisheries and livestock sector is enriching our economy through exports after meeting the local demand for fish, meat, eggs and milk," SM Rezaul Karim added.
"We should be watchful so that no disruption in food production happens," he added.
He asked the field-level officers to perform their duties with devotion and sincerity. He also ordered them to take necessary steps to make mobile sales of fish, milk, eggs and meat accessible to all.
The minister also directed the officials to inform higher authorities if any problem rises on transportation and supply.
The minister is exchanging views regularly with fisheries and livestock officials in different districts and upazilas and has been providing directives to overcome the coronavirus crisis.
