SureCash disbursing PM’s cash aid to 8 lakh beneficiaries
Rupali Bank SureCash has also started distributing money of government stipend to about 14 million primary students
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the disbursement of Tk2,500 each among the country's 50 lakh distressed families through mobile financial services (MFS) to lessen their woes triggered by the Covid-19 global pandemic.
She inaugurated the project through a video conferencing from her official residence Gono Bhaban recently.
Out of total beneficiaries, 8 lakh are receiving their grants through Rupali Bank SureCash, said a media statement issued on Saturday.
As per this estimation, Tk200 crore will be distributed through this mobile financial service.
According to the media statement, the beneficiaries can cash out this money at any SureCash agent points across the country free of charge.
While speaking about this government initiative, Md Obayed Ullah Al Masud, managing director and chief executive officer of Rupali Bank, said, "The country's people are going through a hard time due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. This financial aid from Prime Minister is a massive help for the informal workers who are jobless this time."
"Being a state-owned bank, we are very proud and grateful to be involved in this programme," he added.
Dr Shahadat Khan, chief executive officer at SureCash, said, "The distribution of this cash aid through mobile financial services is a milestone for our dream of building the Digital Bangladesh."
According to sources, many government departments and 4 mobile financial service providers, in this regard, are working together to build a large database of beneficiaries from every nook and corner of the country and disburse the government's incentive directly to their mobile phones.
"We believe this is a big deal to make integrated use of data, technology and experience to deliver better services to the people and take the country forward," Shahadat Khan added.
Apart from this, Rupali Bank SureCash has also started distributing money of government stipend to about 14 million primary students. This money will reach the beneficiary mothers' mobile accounts before Eid, the media statement read.
