A murder case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 44 others in connection with the killing of a school student, Roman Mia, 17, who was shot during a celebratory procession following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on 5 August in Narayanganj's Rupganj.
"The victim's aunt Rina filed the case with Rupganj Police Station today (21 August). The case has named 45 individuals and 60 unidentified persons as accused," the station's Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Jobayer Hossain told The Business Standard.
Among the other accused include former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former Awami League lawmaker Golam Dastgir Gazi, and BCB Director Gazi Golam Mortuza Pappa.
"On 5 August, a celebratory procession was underway among students following news of Sheikh Hasina's fall. During this time, leaders and activists of the AL and its affiliated organisations, armed with pistols, firearms, and local weapons, attacked the students near Janakalyan School in Rupganj's Chanpara," plaintiff Rina told TBS.
"The accused allegedly fired indiscriminately at the students and detonated cocktails, resulting in Roman being seriously injured. He was taken to Purbagram Hospital where he was declared dead," she added.
Roman Mia, son of Anwar Hossain from the Chanpara area, was a class 10 student at Chanpara Nabakisholoy High School in Rupganj.
