A team of members of Anti-Terrorism Unit of Bangladesh Police (ATU) in plain cloth, arrested Abu Tayeb, an alleged member of the banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), from Kuril-Bishsho road area in the capital on Thursday.

The ATU team raided the place, where several members of the banned militant group were conducting a secret meeting. The ATU team recovered jihadist books and a mobile phone during the raid.
According to the police sources, detained Tayeb is a student of the department of Kitab at Jamia Islamia Imdadul Ulum Madrasa in Narsingdi.
During interrogation, Tayeb confessed about his membership in the ABT, while providing important information.
With the help of the information, the ATU team raided his house in Pachhati village under Monohordi thana in Narsingdi district, and recovered another mobile phone. The ATU is on the hunt for the other members of the ABT.
Tayeb informed that his team members used messenger and other apps for planning their activities and fundraising for purchasing arms, their purpose being the establishment of khilafat in Bangladesh.
Earlier, the ATU arrested Abu Saleh Mohammad Jakaria from Rupnagar and Shanto Hasan from Pallabi in Dhaka. They confessed that they had a close connection with Tayeb.
On Friday, a case has been filed with the Bhatara Police Station, as per the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009, against Tayeb in connection with financing and supporting terrorist activities and organizations.
