Hosiery worker killed for Tk700 in Narayanganj

A hosiery worker was hacked to death on Thursday in Tanbazar area of Naryanganj as he failed to return Tk700 that he had borrowed from his colleague.
The deceased was identified as Arif Hossain, 22, who used to work at a shop on the ninth floor of Riverview Tower in the city. He was the son of Abdul Matin, a tenant at the city’s Nitaiganj Rishipara area.
The incident took place on the walkway at the bank of the river Shitalakshya around 12:15am on Thursday.
According to police, Arif had borrowed Tk700 from his coworker Sohrab a few days ago. As he did not return the money, Sohrab took Arif to the walkway when he was on his way home on Thursday and wanted his money back. This triggered a brawl followed by a sudden attack on Arif from Sohrab and his friends. Sohrab and his companions left the place after stabbing Arif in the chest.
Hearing Arif shouting, people nearby rushed a severely injured Arif to a hospital. The doctor there declared him dead.
The people lynched one of Arif’s colleagues and kept him confined there.
Being informed about it, the police reached the spot and detained Miraj in connection with the incident.
The body of Arif was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Delowar Hossain Setu, the elder brother of Arif, said he hoped that those, who are involved with the incident, will be arrested soon and be given an exemplary punishment.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model police station Md Asaduzzaman said police were trying to arrest the other accused.
Arif’s mother Minara Begum filed a case with Sadar police station in this regard.
