Kushtia Jubo League leader ZM Samrat arrested in 11 cases, including 5 Aug murder
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested ZM Samrat, a Jubo League leader in Kushtia, yesterday (22 September) in eleven cases, including two murders on 5 August.
Kushtia's RAB-12 and Porabari camp's RAB-1 jointly conducted the operation at the Bhogra bypass intersection of Gazipur.
Squadron Leader Ilyas Khan, RAB-12 company commander, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard this afternoon, saying, "Samrat is a top terror. He was handed over to the Kushtia Model Police Station for legal action."
Contacted, Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzul Haque Chowdhury said the accused was sent to the district magistrate through court.
ZM Samrat, 37, used to be former joint convener of Kushtia Jubo League.
Eleven cases against him, including murder, arms, drugs, attacks and extortion had been filed.
He has been absconding since he was accused in two murder cases, filed with the Kushtia Model Police Station, on 5 August in connection with killing students in the district, according to RAB.
According to the case statements, Samrat was accused in the murder case of a man named Ashraful Islam who was killed on 5 August.
The case also accused 29 others with Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif as the main accused.
In another murder case of a man named Yusuf Sheikh, Samrat and 75 others, including Hanif, were accused.
