Mymensingh BCL leader who allegedly shot at students during protests arrested from capital
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) leader, who allegedly shot at students during the July-August protests.
A team of the elite force arrested Nowshad Ahmed Ani, convener of Mymensing BCL unit, from the capital's Mohammadpur area at around 9pm, said Lt Colonel Md Munim Ferdous, director and spokesperson of RAB legal and media wing.
"Recently, a video went viral on social media where people were seen firing at students in Mymensingh during the quota reform protests. After analysing the footage, it was confirmed that BCL leader Ani was involved in the shooting.
"Acting on a tip-off, after conducting a raid he was arrested from Mohammadpur."
The RAB official further said BCL leader Ani is an accused in a case filed at the Kotwali Police Station in Mymensingh district.
The process of handing him over to the relevant police station is underway, he added.
