UP chairman shot dead in his office in Kushtia
The deceased, Naeem Uddin Sentu, 55, was the chairman of Philipnagor Union Parishad
A group of unidentified men shot dead a Union Parishad chairman in his office in Kushtia's Daulatpur today (30 September).
The deceased, Naeem Uddin Sentu, 55, was the chairman of Philipnagor Union Parishad.
The incident took place at Sentu's office in Philipnagor Union Parishad complex around 12pm, Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbubur Rahman told The Business Standard
Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police Palash Kanti Nath said the chairman was sitting in the chair of his room when the assailants shot him from behind through the window.
"He died on the spot. Panic has spread among the people in the area. After police and army brought the situation under control, the body was recovered and sent to Kushtia General Hospital for post-mortem," Palash added.
On the condition of anonymity, a local said Sentu was inactive in politics even though he was involved with the BNP.
"He joined hands with Awami League leaders and was elected to the post of chairman. He may have been murdered because he had a good relationship with local Awami League leaders," the local said.
