Police arrest ex-lawmaker Dabirul Islam in Thakurgaon
Dabirul and his son Majharul Islam Sujon are the prime accused in the extortion case filed against twenty-eight persons on 3 September
Police in an overnight drive arrested a former lawmaker of Thakurgaon-2 constituency Dabirul Islam from an Awami League (AL) leader's residence at Ruhea under Sadar upazila.
"Dabirul, a seven-times lawmaker, was arrested from a residence of AL leader Alamgir Hossen at Ramnath bazaar in Ruhea around 2.30am in an extortion case", said police super Sheikh Shahidul Islam.
Dabirul and his son Majharul Islam Sujon are the prime accused in the extortion case filed against twenty-eight persons on 3 September.
He along with other accused demanded Tk10 crore as extortion from Habibul Islam Babul as he owned 90 acres of land through purchasing at Beurjari in Baliadangi upazila, said the FIR of the case.
Babul later filled the extortion case against them.
Another case was filed against Dabirul over burning 4 leaders of BNP and its other associate organisations to death in Thakurgaon road area on 5 August.
The ex lawmaker is supposed to be produced before the court.
