150 Bangladeshis repatriated from Libya
The IOM provided each repatriate with a financial assistance of Tk6,000, along with food items, medical care, and offered temporary accommodation, if needed
A total of 150 stranded Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated from Libya today (10 October).
A Buraq Air charter flight departed Tripoli this morning, bringing the Bangladeshis home, said a foreign ministry press release.
Upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the returnees were warmly welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IOM.
The IOM provided each repatriate with a financial assistance of Tk6,000, along with food items, medical care, and offered temporary accommodation, if needed.
The repatriation was conducted under joint efforts by the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Many of the Bangladeshis had embarked on a perilous journey to Europe through Libya, falling victim to human traffickers and enduring harsh conditions.
The foreign ministry officials urged citizens to avoid such dangerous routes and highlighted the risks involved in illegal migration.
The Bangladesh Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the IOM continue their efforts to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshi nationals detained in Libyan detention centres.
