Rizvi asks why BCL, Jubo League activists shooting students not arrested
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has raised concerns over "inaction" in arresting Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League leaders involved in the shootings of students during the anti-discrimination movement.
"Why have those who fired on students not been arrested yet?" he questioned, addressing the interim government while speaking at the mausoleum of former president Ziaur Rahman in Dhaka today.
Rizvi criticised the authorities for failing to bring those responsible for the killings of Abu Sayeed, Mugdha, and Fayez to justice. He warned that failing to hold the perpetrators accountable would lead to further violence.
He also addressed the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja in Bangladesh. "It is because the vigilance of pro-democracy parties like the BNP Puja has been peaceful."
However, Indian media is spreading false propaganda about Bangladesh, added the BNP leader. He also criticised Indian political leaders for supporting Sheikh Hasina over the interests of the Bangladeshi people.
He also expressed concern over the preferential treatment given to Awami League leaders travelling to India without passports or visas.
Rizvi claimed that India wants Awami League and its cohorts in power to assert dominance over Bangladesh.
"In the recent past, whatever Bangladesh said, India echoed that it wants AL and its cohorts in power so that it can dominate Bangladesh. India does not need support and friendship of Bangladesh and its people," he added.
Rizvi was accompanied by MA Malek, president of BNP's UK unit, who returned to the country yesterday after 19 years. Malek was greeted by a large gathering of BNP leaders and activists at Dhaka airport.
Upon his return, Malek paid tribute to those who lost their lives during anti-dictatorship movements and pledged support for families of the injured.
